Paris-based Mistral AI has released its Medium 3 model, positioning it as a high-performance alternative to established players like Claude 3.7 and Gemini 2.0 at significantly lower operational costs. The startup, founded by ex-Google DeepMind and Meta AI researchers, claims an eightfold cost advantage for comparable performance in coding and business applications.

Benchmark results show Medium 3 outperforming Llama 4 Maverick and Cohere Command A, with immediate availability on Mistral La Plateforme and Amazon Sagemaker. Google Cloud and Azure integrations are slated for future release, potentially reshaping the economics of large-scale AI deployment.
